Ben Edson founded VariQ in 2003 as a single employee start-up with the vision of providing professional cybersecurity, software development, and IT infrastructure services to federal and state government. As an industry innovator and results-driven entrepreneur, Ben has built an award-winning business that engineers and delivers technical, problem solving solutions while fostering lasting partnerships with industry leaders.
Ben Edson has served on the board of directors for both the Small and Emerging Contractors Advisory Forum (SECAF) and WorkSource Montgomery since 2015. He was awarded the Washington GovCon Executive of the Year award in 2015. In 2016, he received the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce's Small Business Leader of the Year award and the Washington SmartCEO's Family Business Legacy award. VariQ was named Cybersecurity Company of the Year by Montgomery County in 2015, and received the ACG Capital’s Growth Company of the Year award in 2017.
Ben earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, and an MBA and Master of Science in Information Telecommunications Systems from the Carey Business School of Johns Hopkins University.
As CFO for VariQ, Tom Edson is responsible for the overall financial governance and management of VariQ's operations. He directs, monitors, and administers activities and policies related to the company’s financial position.
Prior to joining VariQ, Tom worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers, serving for five years as a senior associate, where he specialized in financial statement audits of numerous financial companies such as hedge funds and banking clients. In 2010, he relocated to Washington DC to join the VariQ team.
Tom Edson received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and a Master of Science in Accounting from the University of Texas, San Antonio. He received his CPA certification from the State of Texas, and is a certified Project Management Professional. He was the recipient of the Washington DC Executive Management Award in 2016 and the Trending 40 award in 2017 for Rising Stars in Federal Technology.
As Director of Operations and Communications, Joy Cox provides executive oversight of VariQ’s operations and public relations, and the implementation of strategic communications to advance VariQ’s business plan. She oversees the company’s day-to-day activities and marketing and branding efforts, and is passionate about growing VariQ’s values-based culture, fostering employee engagement, and supporting a climate for expansion and world class service delivery.
Prior to joining VariQ, Ms. Cox worked for over 15 years in executive management in the non-profit sector, providing oversight to geographically dispersed projects and teams in over 20 countries. She also served as a communications consultant on messaging strategies, crisis management, and multilingual website and publication creation.
Joy holds an MA degree in Professional Communications from Royal Roads University in Canada. She is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Scrum Master (CSM), and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) v3 Foundation certifed.
Olin Green is VariQ’s Senior Vice President of Service Delivery. He is a seasoned business leader with 18+ years of experience in Information Technology (IT) and Cyber Security, and has provided executive oversight and driven growth in operational portfolios across the federal sector throughout his career. Olin joined VariQ in 2016 and presently manages a diverse portfolio of 34 cyber security, software development, and enterprise IT programs.
Olin’s previous positions include Senior Director of Enterprise Services and Director of Business Development with Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc., as well as Chief Enterprise Architect for acquisition, systems engineering, and enterprise solution implementations. He brings leadership and innovation to VariQ, with focus on ongoing development of leading-edge capabilities.
Olin Green is invested in giving back to the community, and was a recent speaker at a Rockville Economic Development, Inc. Cyber Security panel for the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce, as well as the face of VariQ in Montgomery County’s MoCo365 campaign. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
Brian Edwards serves as VariQ’s Vice President for the Civilian Sector. In this capacity, Mr. Edwards is responsible for business development and capture, and is tasked to lead and improve company growth by leveraging VariQ’s core capabilities and exceptional past performance across a diverse customer base.
Mr. Edwards has been working in the field of security since 2001, managing and supporting the development and implementation of security initiatives across a wide spectrum of customers including the Federal Financial Sector, Department of Defense, Petro-Chemical companies, and U.S. Embassies. His career has encompassed roles in leadership, executive management, business development/capture, marketing, decision-making, and problem solving.
Mr. Edwards has a successful record of accomplishments in developing, managing, and delivering solutions that generate revenue, meet customer requirements, and expand market share. Mr. Edwards was instrumental in VariQ receiving numerous industry-recognized awards and commendations.
Matt Bringman serves as VariQ’s Senior Vice President for Business Development. His focus is the development of strategic partnerships, opportunity capture, and increasing the company’s footprint, while providing the leadership team at VariQ with strategic and innovative thought, creative approaches and proven processes.
Prior to VariQ, Matt held director level positions in operations and business development at small and medium sized companies. For over 17 years, Matt developed and executed programs of up to $200M across the DoD, DHS, FBI, NASA and the private sector. His experience in program management spans the development of acquisition plans and documentation for multi-year programs, to providing management and technical support for large and complex programs
Matt Bringman earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Ohio State University, and a Master of Business Administration from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.
Pembroke Washington is VariQ’s Vice President for its Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Sector, where he is responsible for business development, capture, strategic alliances, and growth. Mr. Washington brings more than 25 years of experience delivering mission support and information technology (IT) services focused on law enforcement, immigration, counterterrorism and communications.
Prior to joining VariQ, Pembroke served as VP of Business Development at eGlobalTech, responsible for their Public Safety portfolio, comprised primarily of DHS, Department of Justice, and Department of State. His career includes senior business development, capture, and program management responsibilities at SRA, QinetiQ, and Verizon. His leadership and/or support in several large contract bids resulted in awards of federal government contracts ranging from $10 million to $200+ million.
Mr. Washington has a Master’s degree from James Madison University and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia. He also holds several industry certifications, including PMP, CSM, SAFe, ICP-APM, ITIL, AWS, in addition to being active in several industry organizations.
Stacie Hylton serves as VariQ’s Director of Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) programs. In this capacity, she manages a portfolio of four SEC security risk management, infrastructure, and development programs. She is also a Program Manager for VariQ’s largest cyber program, Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Enterprise FISMA Compliance.
Stacie has over 10 years of experience in Information Assurance and Cybersecurity, managing and supporting the implementation of security programs across a wide spectrum of customers, with a focus on the financial sector. Stacie has extensive background in FISMA, Security Assessment and Authorization (SA&A), Continuous Monitoring, Performance Measurement and Metrics, and Policy Development. Prior to joining VariQ, Stacie worked for Booz Allen Hamilton serving as a Lead Associate.
Stacie Hylton earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Virginia Tech University.
Darius Taylor serves as VariQ’s Vice President for the IRS sector. Mr. Taylor is responsible for business development, strategy execution, capture management, and is charged with developing strategic alliances and identifying new concept revenue streams.
Mr. Taylor has 20+ years of business experience and has held several leadership positions in the areas of technology and process innovation, operations, and quality management.
Before joining VariQ, Darius worked for 15 years at the Internal Revenue Service in various Senior Executive Service (SES) leadership positions of increasing responsibility, and he sponsored and led transformation initiatives that impacted 90,000 end users and 170 million taxpayers. Darius also served in leadership positions at Microsoft, Bearing Point and Verizon.
Darius Taylor holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Linguistics from the University of Maryland Baltimore County and an Executive Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Maryland University College.
As Director of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Programs at VariQ, Rebecca Boone is responsible for the service delivery and management of development, sustainment and security related programs, including contracts with the U.S. Coast Guard, the Office of Biometric Identity Management, U.S. Customs and Immigration Services, and the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection.
A seasoned contracts veteran, Ms. Boone brings more than a decade of experience managing federal contracts to the VariQ team. In previous roles, she has supported the U.S. Department of State, Department of Defense, Space and Naval Warfare Systems, the U.S. Army, and the Drug Enforcement Agency.
Ms. Boone holds an MBA from Strayer University’s Jack Welch Management Institute as well as a PMP and other industry certifications.
Roy Quill serves as VariQ’s Vice President of Strategic Programs. He leads VariQ’s small business incubation program with identification, formation, development, and growth of joint ventures and mentor protégés. Roy brings over 20 years of progressive experience with leadership roles in new business startup, business development, capture management and corporate mergers and acquisition in federal, state government and commercial organizations.
Roy has led efforts with numerous US government agencies, including multiple components and sub agencies of Department of Homeland Security and Department of State, as well as US Courts and Commerce. Roy also led teams of up to 20 subject matter experts through all phases of business development, capture, proposal and transition.
Roy is a Certified Scrum Master and studied Economics at North London Polytechnic, and Advanced Level Mathematics and Economics at Hammersmith and West London College, UK.
Thomas Delrue is VariQ’s Chief Innovation Strategist and Lead Software Architect for VariQ’s Software Development programs. In this capacity, he is responsible for technical excellence in the delivery of all VariQ development programs. As Chief Innovation Strategist, he is also responsible for propelling QLabs, VariQ’s Innovation Incubation program.
Thomas brings over 15 years of experience in software engineering to VariQ and builds on his subject matter expertise to push the envelope in innovation. Prior to joining VariQ, he served as Chief Software Architect at Fundamental Software, Recorded Books and Bay Bridge Decision Technologies, and was Senior Software Development Engineer at Microsoft Corp’s headquarters where he worked on hard-core developer tools and server systems.
Thomas received a bachelor’s degree in Applied Computer Science from Erasmus University College in Brussels, Belgium and graduated summa cum laude.
